Wisdom Tooth Extractions – Aurora, IL

Preserving Your Smile’s Health with Preventive Extractions

Wisdom teeth tend to erupt in the late teens or early twenties, and they are notorious for causing problems ranging from impaction to chronic cavities. We will examine you or your teen’s mouth and take X-rays to determine if wisdom tooth extraction in Aurora is necessary. That way, we can take them out before they cause any major issues. Thanks to our skilled hands and use of sedation dentistry, most patients enjoy a comfortable experience and are able to heal within a few days following their procedure.

Why Choose Sommers Family Dental for Wisdom Tooth Extractions?

What are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars, are the very last teeth located in the back of the mouth that grow in between the ages of 16 and 24. While many people have all four of their wisdom teeth, some have three, two, or only one, and a small percentage of the population have no wisdom teeth at all.

Why Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed?

While many people are under the impression that wisdom teeth always need to be removed, that’s not actually the case. Wisdom tooth extraction is a precautionary measure recommended by dentists to make sure that related oral health concerns won’t develop down the road. Here are some of the reasons why wisdom teeth are extracted:

What to Expect During a Wisdom Tooth Extraction

There are two types of wisdom tooth extractions, simple and surgical. If the tooth is visible above the gumline, our team of experts can gently remove it from its socket. However, if the tooth is still located beneath the gumline, a small window will be created to access it. We’ll then gently remove the wisdom teeth in small sections until no tooth remains.

After closing the incision, we’ll pack the site with gauze to stop any bleeding and help a clot form. Typically, patients are able to make a full recovery within a week or two of their treatment and feel better enough to go back to work or school within two days.
